The Transfer

Welcome to Cardinal Newman Catholic High School. This section will tell you everything you need to know about transition whether you are a pupil or parent. We have lots going on throughout the year which aims to provide a smooth and happy transition to High School with plenty of support and fun along the way.

The transfer to secondary school is a very important stage in your child's education and it is important that children quickly settle into life at Cardinal Newman High School.

We aim to ensure that the transfer is as smooth as possible and have an active programme of liaison with our partner primary schools throughout the year. Children may visit the school for music or drama performances or for other specialist activities and several members of our teaching staff regularly visit our partner primary schools.

During the summer term, children in Year 5 are invited to Cardinal Newman High School for a day of sample lessons and in this way have the opportunity to become familiar with the school building and several members of the teaching staff.

When the children are in Year 6 parents and children receive a copy of the school prospectus and an invitation to our Open Evening.

In the Summer Term all pupils who are transferring to Cardinal Newman High School are invited for a day to meet their new form tutors and classmates. Here they will meet their Year 11 Form Prefects who will be attached to each Year 7 form to help them settle in.

In addition, there is a special Parents' Evening for parents of pupils transferring where there is the opportunity to meet Year 7 tutors and discuss any concerns relating to transfer.

Parents and prospective students are welcome to make a mutually convenient appointment to visit the school during a normal working day.
